Summertime Heat is here! Well Well Well, the yacht-rock icons of San Diego have gathered some of their finest material to date for their new album. Summertime Heat finds primary songwriters Seton Edgerton & Daniel Nichols refining their sound into a genre all their own that’s equal parts satirical and sincere. The resulting album stands as Well Well Well’s finest work, recalling the smooth sounds of Steely Dan, Michael McDonald, and Prince.

Working with a collection of San Diego’s finest musicians, the group wrote and tracked tirelessly for four years in between national tours & busy schedules, working in professional backyard studios, vacation rentals across Southern California, and their own home studio overlooking the San Diego Airport. In contrast with past releases, this album finds the band embracing a fuller sound, complete with horns, synthesizers, and pedal steel. Toro y Moi collaborator Pat Jones mixed half the album at Honeymoon Suite in Los Angeles, while co-producer David Glasebrook did the remaining mixing and mastering at his studio in Oakland, CA.

Title track “Summertime Heat”, a summer anthem for the ages, takes its inspiration from Edgerton’s childhood in the hot & dry suburbs of Los Angeles. “Inspired by those early morning’s in my mom’s minivan bumping the local smooth jazz station. Getting dropped off at high school in Encino, where gridlock traffic happens around the clock and the sun beats down with merciless heat. The only escape being the ocean breeze and the windows down cruising the 101 freeway. It’s an homage to my Los Angeles experience.” Meanwhile, the group’s trademark humor shines through on “No Surfing”, which revisits the early days of Covid-19 and the ill-advised temporary surfing band put in place by the authorities, while “Mar-A-Lago” pokes fun at the 45th US president with satirical lyrics about his “casino by the sea”. 

In the past couple of years Well Well Well has come a long way after working with The Mattson 2 on their 2022 album Palm Springs. Since then they’ve assembled a band of San Diego’s finest musicians, crisscrossed the US on tour with Donny Benet, played sold out shows at The Regent in Los Angeles and Bimbo’s 365 Club in San Francisco, and now they’re set to release Summertime Heat, an album with smooth sounds and satirical lyrics that only Well Well Well could deliver.

Royal Oakie Records is pleased to release the album at the height of California summer on September 6th 2024, with a UK/EU physical release to follow on November 15th 2024.
